Workroom Fashionmash x CHANEL: Trouver La Paix

Trouver La Paix debuted on May 21st, 2021. This space brought together a community by intersecting human senses with lived experiences while we were all suffering from the detriment of COVID-19. The interactive space allowed for people to feel, touch, and smell what it means to find peace. Through this time, I executed, implemented and gathered the proper materials and vendors to curate a meaningful interactive space for those to find peace during a challenging period in today’s world.

I had the opportunity to seek out local artist and vendors to invite them into the Chanel space. We worked diligently together to emphasize the importance of finding a sense of tranquility and belonging for individuals. This project pushed into the direction for the love of experiential spaces as I learned and understood how people move their bodies through spaces they come into contact with. By pushing the boundaries of human sensory of touch, smell, taste, and visual layouts each piece in the exhibit catered to ignite a sensory of some sort. Via visuals, we played our films we conceptual planned with storyboarding, directing, finding a location to film, and the final stages of video editing. Via touch, the space was implemented to have textures showcased around the exhibit for individuals to touch and feel. Via smell, the fragrance Chanel Number 5 was dispersed throuhgout its own room with releasing the fragrance ever 20 minutes. Via taste, we contacted local vendors to bring wine and hor’ d’oeuvres as refreshments for people to enjoy as they navigated themselves in out of the instillations.

Sensory film Project ‘Enigmatique’ in which our team in UNC-CH’s Workroom FashionMash Program created for the iconic fragrance, Chanel no. 5 (2020).

We are enigmatic. The self-identity exists within the fog. It is wrapped and shrouded in a veil of mystery. But who are we truly? Are we free? To be liberated, to be independent, fluent in our expression, these are the goals of the self. Enter our world, and begin your journey.
